Courtyard House, Brunswick

Extension to a weatherboard Edwardian workers cottage in Brunswick on a small block. The original house was quite dilapidated and the owners had a very tight budget. With 2 adults and 2 teenagers comprising the family, creating space was the priority. We retained the heritage front with 2 rooms and hallway. The existing hall opens onto a double height space with skylights pulling light into the centre of the house. The bathroom and laundry opens off this space as well as stairs leading up to the mater bedroom and ensuite. The kitchen and dining room are just past the stairs and open onto the brick paved courtyard. A hall set off the south boundary connects the dining area to the lower lounge room at the rear of the property. All living areas look onto the north facing courtyard which allows for maximum light and air entering the house which now sparkles with joy.
